smaller (?) than honda ya but maybe better. i ordered the live sweet shrimp which is one of my favorite nigiri, and they even give you the fried head to eat after! that alone is worth a star in itself
5 stars until i have a reason not to like this place. will be back -

Again you did not disappoint. Understanding your staff is busy is part of being a good customer.
The staff is nice and if you catch them they are happy to get you anything you want. The crunchy on fire roll still wins each time. The Sushi platter although it is twice the price of the company across the street at least it has better selections.
Get there early to put your name on the list because the average wait time for a table is about 30 minutes. We always find t worth it. -

Kappo Honda is a great Izakaya to go to if you're looking for a variety of Japanese food and good Sake and Beers. The food is relatively in expensive as most of the food is either grilled skewers, sushi, or other small eats.
Kappo Honda is fun for groups as you can order a lot more items and share, which is what I recommend. Izakaya's are more a social dining experience and not "dinner for one" type of dining. You will see large groups here drinking and eating together so expect the restaurant to be loud. If you're trying to go here for a quiet dinner, you're probably at the wrong place.
The food is pretty good. The grilled meats and tasty and cost around $2-$4 each so get several and share. You can try foods that you normally wouldn't eat like chicken heart, gizzard, cartilage, and other odd parts that get discarded most of the time. -

What didn't we order....
Liver, heart, lamb chop, giant shrimp, soft shell crab roll, yellowtail collar, blue fin tuna, Chilean seabass and of course a Sapporo for taste paring. Everything we got was tasty!! I truly enjoyed the taste of everything and trying all the types of food they have on the menu.
This place gets crowded on a regular base. During dinner time and on the weekend. We had to wait 30 minute on a weekday to get seated.
It's a fun place to go to. If you sit at the bar you can watch them grill your food, it looks simple and they work hard back there!
The restaurant itself is older but has a lot of character and the staff are very nice. The food comes out very fast and you need to eat fast- I felt kind of rush eating there. -

Kappo Honda sushi restaurant was one of a couple restaurants that were open pretty late on a Saturday night. We came straight here from Universal Studios and woww it was the best thing we've eaten all day. Their sushi is sooo fresh and tastes so good. Their flavors can't be beat. My husband loves their Kyushu Ramen, which is pork and chicken broth with pork and ginger. It went so well with bamboo shoots as well.
I really enjoyed their fresh raw oysters and their Volcano roll too. Since we were on vacation and not a lot of places stay open late, we decided to order Teri salmon Teishoku to go. Which came with a delicious mountain of potato salad, a side of salad and miso soup. Everything tasted amazing!!!! We saw on yelp that their Yakitori is also popular so we got a couple sticks. Their beef tongue is just out of this world.
To top it off, I ended our meal with their delicious Japan imported Matcha IPA. Everything was overall perfect. The food was great, service was good too. Can't wait til we return to california because this place is going back on my list of where we need to eat again.
